FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro is stepping down from his submit, officers confirmed Friday.
Nigro, 73 — who had stated he needed to remain on within the Eric Adams administration — was appointed by former Mayor Invoice de Blasio in 2014.

Adams, who took over Metropolis Corridor as mayor Jan. 1, praised Nigro as a “tireless champion for New Yorkers, and a pal who I’ve leaned on repeatedly.
“From overseeing the heroic 9/11 rescue and restoration efforts to main the FDNY’s unwavering response through the pandemic, Dan has labored tirelessly to guard all New Yorkers,” the mayor stated in a press release. “New Yorkers, whether or not they comprehend it or not, are all safer due to the work he’s completed and owe him their thanks.
