Maine girls high school basketball announcers fired after body-shaming players

A pair of highschool announcers in Houlton, Maine have been fired on Thursday after making feedback body-shaming women basketball gamers throughout a livestream.

Jim Carter and Steve Shaw, a former athletic director and coach, respectively, had been broadcasting video games for a couple of month, in line with the Portland Press Herald. In a 40-second video that made its approach onto Twitter, certainly one of them was heard saying, “two women out right here extraordinarily obese. “I began getting telephone calls instantly,” WHOU station director Fred Grant informed the Press Herald.

Carter informed the Press Herald that he apologized to the superintendent of the varsity with gamers he commented on. A retired trainer, Carter has written three books about highschool basketball in Aroostook County. Shaw was inducted into the Maine Basketball Corridor of Fame in August.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Carter informed the Press Herald. “Hopefully all people can get by this and be OK.”

Joseph Leach, a mum or dad of one of many women on the staff, expressed shock when reached by the Press Herald.

“I used to be house after the video games and anyone shared the video with us and I immediately knew it was Jim Carter and Steve Shaw speaking,” Leach mentioned. “And I actually simply couldn’t consider what they have been saying, actually.”

Grant issued an apology on behalf of the station.
