The Yale Bulldogs are looking to make up for lost time as the Ivy League opted out of the 2020-21 season, and they will play on the West Coast against St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs have done a better job than the Gaels of taking care of the ball, ranking 54th in the country in turnovers per possession while St. Mary’s is 177th in that category.
St. Mary’s also has had a tough time defending long-range shots, ranking 232rd in the country in opponent 3-point shooting percentage at 34.2.
Both teams have also had a tough time getting second chances, with each ranking outside the top 225 of Division I teams in rebound rate on missed shots.
Yale will rely on Azar Swain, who enters having averaged 20.8 points per game the past 10 games. The Bulldogs will be able to generate enough offense against a St. Mary’s team that is 134th in the country in points scored on a per-possession basis to give the Gaels a tough test as a double-digit underdog.
The Play: Yale, +12.5.
