Colombia landslide kills at least 14 and injures 35

BOGOTA, Feb 8 – At the very least 14 individuals have been killed and 35 injured after a landslide coated a number of houses in central Colombia on Tuesday, the nation’s catastrophe administration company mentioned.

The incident in Dosquebradas, near the town of Pereira, adopted heavy rains within the surrounding coffee-growing province.

“Our up to date report signifies that 35 individuals have been injured, 14 misplaced their lives and one stays lacking,” the UNGRD catastrophe company mentioned on Twitter of the early morning landslide within the La Esneda neighborhood. Rescue efforts have been ongoing, it added.

Authorities evacuated dozens of close by houses because the Otun river overflowed.

Landslides are widespread in Colombia as a result of mountainous terrain, frequent heavy rains and poor or casual development of homes.
