Democratic Socialists blame US imperialism for Russian invasion of Ukraine

The Democratic Socialists of America blamed U.S. and NATO “imperialist growth” for serving to set off the Russian invasion of Ukraine — upsetting criticism from native political leaders.

“DSA reaffirms our name for the US to withdraw from NATO and to finish the imperialist expansionism that set the stage for this battle,” the DSA stated in an announcement.

Former Staten Island Democratic Congressman and navy vet Max Rose stated in a tweet, “I'm deeply involved with DSA’s assertion calling on the US to unilaterally depart NATO within the midst of a stage of Russian Aggression on the European Continent that we've got not seen since World Warfare 2.

“Now's the time to double down on our alliances, significantly NATO, to ship financial and navy support to Ukraine, and to comprehensively punish Russia with crippling and unprecedented sanctions,” he added.

The DSA did condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and demanded rapid diplomacy and de-escalation to resolve this disaster.

“We stand in solidarity with the working lessons of Ukraine and Russia who will undoubtedly bear the brunt of this struggle, and with antiwar protestors in each international locations and world wide who're calling for a diplomatic decision,” the DSA stated.

The DSA stated the invasion is an “unlawful act” below the United Nations Constitution.
