Superteams within the NFL don’t work. The 2011 Eagles, with a free-agent bonanza that included Nnamdi Asomugha, Jason Babin and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie – a group that backup quarterback Vince Younger known as a “dream group” – turned a cautionary story. This isn't the way you construct your group.
You put money into draft picks. You determine the younger quarterback who grows with the group. You lose rather a lot for a couple of seasons and promote the longer term and the tradition to your fan base.
The Rams broke each rule, and on Sunday they have been handsomely rewarded for being the one group in soccer that thinks in another way. “Attempting to win now” may be the newest market inefficiency, and the Rams exploited it.
