Molly Ringwald’s mom forgot ‘Sixteen Candles’ icon’s birthday: ‘Life imitates art’

The actress took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a textual content convo she reportedly had along with her mom, captioning it, “Precise dialog with my mother at present.”

Within the textual content, the “Secret Lifetime of the American Teenager” star requested her mom, “That’s it? You don’t have anything to say to me at present?”

Her mother then responded, in jest, “I didn’t notice it was the 18th at present. Comfortable birthday! I haven’t bought your current within the mail. Will do very quickly.”

“Life imitates artwork,” Ringwald then stated again, to which her mother replied, “How true. It took me just a few extra years to neglect.”

“Again then, I used to be solely vaguely conscious of how inappropriate a lot of John’s writing was, given my restricted expertise and what was thought of regular on the time. I used to be nicely into my thirties earlier than I finished contemplating verbally abusive males extra attention-grabbing than the good ones,” the mom of three wrote on the time.

“I stored fascinated about that scene,” she continued. “I considered it once more this previous fall, after a variety of girls got here ahead with sexual-assault accusations in opposition to the producer Harvey Weinstein, and the #MeToo motion gathered steam. If attitudes towards feminine subjugation are systemic, and I imagine that they're, it stands to cause that the artwork we devour and sanction performs some half in reinforcing those self same attitudes.”

The Brat Pack member then declared that Bender “sexually harasses Claire” all through the film.

“When he’s not sexualizing her, he takes out his rage on her with vicious contempt, calling her ‘pathetic,’ mocking her as ‘Queenie.’ It’s rejection that evokes his vitriol. Claire acts dismissively towards him … He by no means apologizes for any of it, however, nonetheless, he will get the woman ultimately,” she stated.
