Sen. Dianne Feinstein announces death of husband, Richard Blum

Richard Blum, the longtime husband of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, died Sunday night following a battle with most cancers, the senator introduced Monday. He was 86.

“My coronary heart is damaged right this moment. My husband was my associate and greatest good friend for greater than 40 years. He was by my facet for the nice occasions and for the challenges. I'm going to overlook him terribly,” Feinstein (D-Calif.) stated in an announcement.

“Dick was extremely dedicated to his household, notably his daughters and his grandchildren, and my coronary heart is with them and everybody who Dick encountered,” she added. “He was the kind of man who actually changed his divot in life, who left issues higher than he discovered them. His huge generosity is an inspiration for therefore many people.”

Blum, a graduate of Cal-Berkeley, based personal fairness agency Blum Capital in 1975 and married then-San Francisco Mayor Feinstein 5 years later. The wedding was the third for Feinstein and the second for Blum, who had three daughters together with his first spouse.

Feinstein’s assertion lauded her late husband’s charitable work for the folks of the Himalayan area of Asia, citing the creation of the nonprofit American Himalayan Basis as “one among his proudest achievements.”

“We've got a gap in our hearts that can by no means be crammed,” Feinstein concluded. “Dick, we love you, we’ll miss you and we’ll proceed to have fun the whole lot you completed throughout an incredible life.”

Along with his work in finance and international charity, Blum was a member of the Board of Regents at his alma mater for almost 20 years.

In 2020, Blum was revealed to have written to the college’s chancellor to push for the admission of an applicant who had been waitlisted and had an roughly 1 in 4 probability of getting in.

An audit of Cal’s admissions practices discovered that the unidentified pupil’s admission “was seemingly influenced by the regent’s advocacy.”

In response to the audit, Blum advised the San Jose Mercury Information that he had written letters of advice for years, and by no means thought they “ever had a lot affect.”

“That is the primary time I’ve heard that perhaps I did one thing that wasn’t proper,” he stated. “I believe it’s a bunch of nonsense.”

Feinstein has represented California within the Senate since 1992. She is up for re-election in 2024, however has not but stated whether or not she intends to hunt one other time period. She can be 91 on Election Day.
