Pickleball guru charged as felon for re-striping public ball court with Sharpie

A Denver man dubbed the “mayor of pickleball” tried to create his personal courtroom — and now he’s possible headed to 1.

Arslan Guney, 71, and different pickleball fanatics play the sport on a basketball courtroom at Denver’s Central Park Recreation Middle. The pickleball courtroom markings had grown so light that Guney this month drew in new traces with a Sharpie, in line with a report.

He was slapped with an arrest warrant three days later and he now faces felony prison mischief fees, the report states, with town claiming $10,000 in damages.

“The entire pickleball neighborhood is absolutely saddened and shocked,” Jan Devor, a pal of the accused felon and a fellow pickleball participant, advised Denver 7 Information.

Denver officers stand by the fees.

“It's our obligation and accountability to the residents of Denver to guard metropolis belongings and public property,” the Parks and Recreation Division mentioned in a press release. “Defacing or damaging public property is unacceptable, a prison offense and won't be tolerated in any of our public buildings or areas. Legislation enforcement is conscious of the harm and the incident is being investigated. Pickleball play was quickly suspended to evaluate the harm and associated repairs.”
