Senegal begins military operation against Casamance secessionists

The riot, which has thrived on perceived marginalisation of the Casamance area, dates again to 1982.

Senegalese authorities have launched a navy offensive towards fighters allied to the Motion of Democratic Forces of Casamance, a separatist group within the southern area of the nation.

Based on a press release on Sunday night by the navy chief of workers, the offensive goals to “destroy all armed gangs conducting prison actions within the space” and “protect the integrity of the nationwide territory in any respect prices”.

“As a part of their regalian missions of securing folks and property, the armies launched an operation on Sunday, March 13, 2022, whose important goal is to dismantle the bases of the MFDC faction of Salif Sadio”, the assertion mentioned.

The mission comes weeks after the loss of life of 4 Senegalese troopers and the seize of seven others by the MFDC fighters as each events fought within the border space with the Gambia.

The MFDC’S riot, which has thrived on perceived marginalisation of the area wedged between The Gambia to its north and Guinea-Bissau to the south, dates again to 1982.
