An Arizona man has been arrested for allegedly stuffing 183 animals into his storage freezer — together with some that had been frozen alive, authorities stated.
The lifeless animals had been found at a house beforehand rented by Michael Patrick Turland, 43, in Golden Valley within the state’s far west, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Workplace stated Thursday.
Deputies stated they discovered the animals, together with canines, turtles, lizards, birds, snakes, mice, rats, and rabbits, stashed inside a “large-sized chest freezer.”
“A number of of the animals appeared to have been frozen alive on account of their physique positioning,” the sheriff’s workplace stated.
Authorities made the grim discovery on April 3 after a lady reported that Turland hadn’t returned a number of snakes she had lent him for breeding a number of months earlier.
The lady informed deputies the home-owner contacted her after discovering the frozen animals whereas cleansing out the property after Turland and his spouse had left and moved out of state.
Turland was taken into custody Wednesday after deputies had been informed he had returned to the rental property.
“When interviewed, Turland ultimately admitted to putting among the animals within the freezer once they had been nonetheless alive,” the sheriff’s workplace stated.
He's dealing with 94 counts of felony animal cruelty.
