Fordham’s Kyle Neptune will take over for Jay Wright as Villanova coach

Kyle Neptune may have some massive, if acquainted, footwear to fill at Villanova.

Shortly after Wildcats basketball coach Jay Wright introduced his stunning retirement on Wednesday, the college named Neptune his successor.

The 37-year-old Brooklyn native leaves his put up at Fordham after one season, guiding the Rams to a 16-16 end in 2021.

“When on the lookout for a successor, we wished a candidate who might navigate the altering panorama of collegiate athletics and preserve Villanova ready of power—now and sooner or later,” Villanova athletic director Mark Jackson stated in a launch. “After assembly with a number of distinctive candidates, we discovered all these attributes and extra in Kyle Neptune. Neptune, who performed faculty ball at Lehigh, joined Wright’s employees as a video coordinator in 2008, left to be an assistant at Niagara in 2010, and returned to the Villanova employees in 2013. As a Wildcats assistant, he helped information the workforce to Massive East common season titles in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020, and league championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

“We’re excited to show the reins of this treasure of a program over to @kyleneptune,” Wright wrote on Twitter. “Kyle was part of our employees for 10 years , helped us win two nationwide titles and returns after a profitable season @FordhamMBB. He understands our tradition and can preserve it sturdy.”

With the information of Neptune’s departure, Fordham introduced its teaching search will start instantly with affiliate head coach Keith Urgo taking up on an interim foundation.
