NYPD van fatally strikes homeless man in Brooklyn: cops

A police van fatally struck a person who's believed to be homeless in Brooklyn Thursday evening, cops mentioned. 

The marked NYPD van was heading west on Japanese Parkway close to Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights simply after 8 p.m. — with its lights and sirens on — when it struck the 53-year-old man, who was standing on the middle median, cops and police sources mentioned. 

The sufferer was believed to be homeless and panhandling when the van slammed into him, cops mentioned. 

He was rushed to Kings County Hospital Middle, the place he was pronounced lifeless. 

The van, which is assigned to the 73rd Precinct, was carrying two cops and 4 prisoners and headed to central reserving, in accordance with police sources.  

Not one of the occupants had been injured. 

The victim could not be immediately identified.
