Seven arrested in Mayor Adams’ latest NYC homeless encampment sweep

Seven folks had been taken away in cuffs as metropolis sanitation staff broke up a homeless encampment within the East Village on Wednesday, officers confirmed.

The encampment sweep at Avenue D and ninth Avenue round 4 p.m. is the most recent in Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to clear the makeshift housing from Huge Apple streets as homeless advocates have decried Metropolis Corridor’s coverage.

4 folks had been residing on the web site, sources stated, and one among them was among the many seven arrested.

It was unclear what prices the seven had been going through.

Metropolis staff had “engaged” for weeks with these residing on the East Village encampment earlier than Wednesday’s sweep, in keeping with a spokesperson for the mayor’s workplace.
