Volkswagen recalling over 100,000 plug-in hybrids due to fire risk

Volkswagen Group will recall greater than 100,000 plug-in hybrid autos globally as a result of threat of fireplace, mentioned a spokesperson for the German carmaker.

Some 42,300 homeowners of Volkswagen Passats, Golfs, Tiguans and Arteons worldwide will probably be notified. Volkswagen model Audi has to recall 24,400 autos, whereas Seat and Skoda are additionally affected.

There's a threat of fireplace in autos that join a standard combustion engine to an electrical drive and are charged by a socket resulting from an insufficiently insulated high-voltage battery, added the spokesperson on Thursday.

German each day Bild cited the KBA regulator as saying “insufficient fastening of the engine design cowl can result in contact with sizzling elements and subsequently to fireplace,” including that 16 such circumstances had been reported in Germany.

The recall impacts Volkswagen manufacturers VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda, Bild mentioned.
