Florida woman stole $10,000 from Boy Scouts’ Europe trip fund: cops

A Florida lady was arrested Wednesday for allegedly pocketing greater than $10,000 from a fund created to pay for some Boy Scouts’ journey to Europe.

Robin DeRushie, 44, was working as a district committee member for a Scout troop in Cocoa, Florida, when in January 2022 she was entrusted to deposit $10,385 in checks from donors into an account for the journey.

In line with a possible trigger affidavit obtained by The Put up, DeRushie “comingled the Boy Scouts cash with private funds and made private purchases.”

Brevard County Sheriff’s Workplace spokesperson Deputy Tod Goodyear stated that DeRushie believed that as a result of the donation checks had been written in her identify, the cash supposed for the Scouts’ journey belonged to her.

“It’s a mistake in perception,” Goodyear advised The Put up Wednesday.

DeRushie allegedly used the money supposed for the Scouts’ journey to take a cruise, pay for passports and canopy her mom’s bank card bills, Goodyear stated.

When the journey was canceled resulting from COVID and the donors requested her to return their cash, DeRushie allegedly refused to provide it again.

A criticism in opposition to DeRushie was filed April 26, resulting in her arrest per week later on a cost of grand theft of $10,000 or extra, a third-degree felony.

DeRushie was launched from jail Wednesday after posting a $2,000 bond.

Her preliminary court docket look occurred this afternoon, however she was not current for it.
