Islanders promote Lane Lambert to head coach as Barry Trotz’s replacement

Lou Lamoriello didn't go together with the controversial Joel Quenneville or Mike Babcock in his substitute for Barry Trotz. He didn't wait round to see what would occur with Pete DeBoer in Vegas or whether or not Paul Maurice needed to get again into teaching.

Lambert, who had labored with Trotz since being elevated to an assistant coach with the Predators in 2011-12, served as head coach for the Islanders for a brief interval in January when Trotz missed time following the dying of his mom and a constructive COVID-19 check.

Like Trotz, he had been with the Islanders for 4 seasons previous to Monday’s promotion.

It's not clear whether or not Lamoriello interviewed or spoke with some other candidates for the job.
