S Africa proposes fuel levy cut extension linked to Ukraine war

South Africa’s authorities is proposing to increase a lower within the normal gas levy till early August to ease stress on shoppers from excessive home gas costs linked to the Russia-Ukraine battle.

In a joint assertion on Tuesday, the Nationwide Treasury and Division of Mineral Assets and Vitality stated the estimated value of the two-month proposal in foregone income was 4.5 billion rand ($288.3m).

“The Minister of Finance has immediately submitted a letter to the Speaker of the Nationwide Meeting, requesting the tabling of a two-month proposal for the extension of the discount within the normal gas levy,” the assertion stated.
