Australia’s defence division says a Chinese language fighter jet “dangerously” intercepted an Australian navy surveillance aircraft within the South China Sea area in Might.

In an announcement on Sunday, the defence division mentioned the Royal Australian Air Pressure (RAAF) P-8 maritime surveillance plane was intercepted by a Chinese language J-16 fighter throughout “routine maritime surveillance exercise” in worldwide airspace within the area on Might 26.

“The intercept resulted in a harmful manoeuvre which posed a security menace to the P-8 plane and its crew,” it mentioned.
