Rescuing Armenia’s Bears | Close Up

Ruben Khachatryan has made it his mission to save lots of the captive bears of Armenia from a lifetime of neglect and distress.

Throughout Armenia, bears are being stored in captivity beneath horrible situations – locked up in tiny, filthy cages, typically subsisting on meals scraps and rancid water.  It's a unhappy legacy of Armenia’s Soviet-era previous when it was modern to maintain unique animals in personal zoos as a standing image or to draw guests to a office.

Ruben Khachatryan runs the Nice Bear Rescue, a mercy mission to rehabilitate these captive bears in a sanctuary within the mountains of Armenia. Right here, the bears can reside out their lives with correct diets, medical consideration and freedom.

“You are feeling answerable for these animals,” says Ruben. “I really feel like they want ambassadors to … combat for them.”

Ruben and his workforce have rescued 30 bears in simply 5 years, however now they face a few of their most difficult missions but as they enter a more durable section of this challenge.

On this movie, we see the assorted methods which might be deployed because the Nice Bear Rescue workforce battles towards bear house owners who refuse to relinquish their animals.
