Chris Sale leaves Red Sox-Yankees game with mangled pinky after Aaron Hicks comebacker

Chris Sale can't escape the damage bug. 

The Purple Sox’s snake-bitten left-hander left Sunday’s begin in opposition to the Yankees after being struck on his left pinky by a 106.7 mph line drive off the bat of Aaron Hicks. Because the ball caromed off him and into proper subject, Sale beelined to the dugout, vigorously shaking his hand in ache and holding out his distorted pinky. 

The staff later mentioned Sale suffered a “left fifth finger fracture.”

Sale lasted simply ⅔ of an inning, permitting three hits and two earned runs. 

Sale made his season debut on Tuesday, having been on the IL with a proper rib stress fracture. He has pitched simply 48 ⅓ large league innings since signing a five-year, $145 million contract extension in March 2019, having missed many of the previous two seasons resulting from Tommy John surgical procedure.
