Endangered birds on Rockaway beaches being watched over by NYC nonprofit

Now these are some sizzling chicks on the seashore!

Volunteers have been braving the warmth this week to guard the endangered piping plovers that flock to Rockaway seashores.

The Good Samaritans are a part of the NYC Plover Challenge, which was based in March 2021 to assist safeguard the tiny sand-colored shorebirds that nest on the seashores within the Rockaways yearly.

Regardless of the volunteers watching out for them, the group tweeted the unhappy information that a beachgoer stepped on a 12-day-old chick, and though its members obtained it to the Wild Hen Fund, town’s solely wildlife rehabilitation heart, it in the end died from its accidents.

“With an earlier seashore closure & better care by beachgoers, this wouldn’t have occurred,” the group wrote.

The nonprofit, which is made up of 75 volunteers, a lot of whom are from the Queens peninsula, has been diligently watching over the little creatures.

This summer season alone, its wildlife conservation activists have given near 2,000 hours of their time in service to the uncommon and susceptible birds, the group stated.
