NYC man sentenced for fatally strangling mother-in-law with HDMI cord

A Bronx man who fatally strangled his mother-in-law with a pc twine in a dispute over custody of his youngsters was sentenced Wednesday to 25-years-to-life in jail for the stunning crime.

Angel Montanez, 42, was accused of killing 65-year-old Lidia Herrera in her condominium in a brutal 2019 assault that woke his kids – two of whom witnessed their grandmother’s dying, Bronx District Legal professional Darcel Clark stated.

“The defendant killed the grandmother of his kids whereas his three kids have been in her dwelling,” Clark stated in a press release.

“Two of them witnessed the homicide and live with that trauma. A jury discovered him responsible of second-degree homicide and he'll spend a few years in jail for destroying so many lives in a single heinous act.”

Herrera allegedly had an order of safety towards her son-in-law.

He went to her Morrisania condominium at round 3 a.m. on July 3, 2019, and an argument broke out as his three kids — two boys ages 10 and 6 and a 4-year-old woman – slept in a room close by.

Montanez then allegedly punched his mother-in-law within the head and wrapped an HDMI cable round her neck.

Herrera was discovered with a fractured bone in her neck, damaged thyroid cartilage and abrasions on her face and physique, the DA stated. She was pronounced lifeless on the scene.

Montanez was discovered responsible by a jury on a second-degree homicide cost on Could 25 and sentenced by Westchester County Supreme Court docket Justice James McCarty, a former Bronx justice who oversaw the trial.
