Atlanta man arrested after allegedly spray-painting swastikas on rainbow crosswalk, SWAT standoff

A person accused of vandalizing the rainbow crosswalks in Atlanta with swastikas was arrested following a standoff with police this week.

The suspect is believed to have spray-painted a swastika onto the rainbow crosswalk at tenth Avenue and Piedmont Avenue on two separate events, in response to Atlanta police.

Investigators went to the suspect’s condo at round midday on Friday. A SWAT Workforce was known as in after the person wouldn't reply to officers.

Roads within the space have been blocked off as officers tried to get the person out.

At round 5 p.m., the suspect instructed legislation enforcement he was leaving the condo and he was taken into custody with out incident.

The identification of the suspect has not been launched. It stays unclear what fees he faces.

The Atlanta Police LGBTQ Liaison Unit was first alerted Wednesday a few “image that seemed to be a swastika spray-painted” on the intersection of tenth Avenue and Piedmont Avenue. Surveillance video confirmed a person enter the crosswalk and spray-paint a swastika earlier than strolling away.

The Atlanta Division of Transportation shortly arrived and cleaned it up. However by early Friday morning, the image was on the crosswalk once more.

Comparable symbols have been seen on the Federal Reserve constructing, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

The rainbow crosswalks have been painted following the 2016 Pulse nightclub taking pictures in Orlando, Florida, that focused the LGBT neighborhood.
