Civilians killed in northern Syria marketplace missile attack

At the least 14 civilians have been killed and dozens of others wounded when a rocket assault hit the city of al-Bab in northern Syria, an opposition struggle monitor and a paramedic group reported.

The opposition’s Syrian Civil Defence, also referred to as White Helmets, mentioned 5 youngsters have been amongst these killed on Friday and that the variety of these wounded was 30.

The assault within the city, which is held by Turkey-backed opposition fighters within the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, got here days after an air assault killed Syrian troops and United States-backed Kurdish fighters in Aleppo. The Syrian authorities blamed Turkey for the assault.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights mentioned that Syrian authorities forces had carried out Friday’s assault and mentioned it was in retaliation for the Turkish raid.

Activists in al-Bab had been planning a protest after Muslim noon prayers on Friday to denounce latest feedback by Turkey calling for reconciliation between the Syrian authorities and the opposition.

In a press release distributed to the media after Friday’s assault, the activists cancelled the demonstration over fears of additional violence.

Turkey has launched three cross-border operations into Syria since 2016 and controls territory throughout the north of the nation.

In latest months Turkey has threatened a brand new operation towards US-backed Kurdish forces, which it labels as “terrorist” teams.
