Joe Buck tried to convince Vin Scully to take his World Series spot

If Joe Buck had his means, the late, nice Vin Scully would have taken Buck’s spot within the broadcast sales space to name the World Sequence. 

“If he confirmed up ever and stated, ‘I’ll do an inning,’ I'd have been within the lunchroom watching it,” Buck informed The Athletic’s “Sports activities Media” podcast Wednesday, after Scully handed away Tuesday on the age of 94

Scully, the voice of the Dodgers for 67 years, referred to as three World Sequence throughout his time working for NBC Sports activities. Buck — who has referred to as 23 World Sequence for FOX — stated he even tried to “undergo intermediaries” and others near Scully to persuade him. 

“We’re not working this a circus, however individuals need to hear you on nationwide tv,” Buck recalled telling Scully. “… If I may by some means pay homage to someone who's that nice and allow them to take my spot, that might be, within the weirdest means, one of many highlights of my profession. Buck famous that Dodgers followers would often write letters saying “Let Vin do it.”

“Sure, please,” Buck stated, agreeing. “I hoped he’d go for it. … Simply that voice and that cadence and that rhythm and that means to weave tales in would have been so nice.” 

In the end, Scully — who retired in 2016 — by no means obliged.
