Democratic group accused of anti-Semitism for mocking names of Jewish NY pols

A liberal Democratic activist group is being accused of anti-Semitism for mocking the names of two Jewish politicians — Home candidate Dan Goldman and state Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz.

“The jerk shopping for a Home seat with inherited cash is ‘Goldman’ … the IDC-adjacent Meeting member is ‘DINOwitz.’ Who got here up with these names, Dickens?” a member of No IDC NY wrote in a since-deleted tweet on Saturday.

The left-wing group was shaped to defeat former members of the Unbiased Democratic Convention within the state Senate, who had a partnership with Republicans that helped preserve the GOP in energy.

The IDC disbanded in 2018 when Democrats received the bulk within the Senate, and most members of the convention misplaced in primaries to extra progressive Democrats.

The blowback to No IDC NY’s tweet was swift, with distinguished Democrats accusing the group of dabbling in anti-Semitism, together with by trotting out a trope involving cash and energy.

“A tweet dripping with Antisemitism,” tweeted Bronx Congressman Ritchie Torres. “The normalization of Antisemitism is an indication of how toxic our politics has turn out to be.”

Dinowitz, a Bronx legislator, responded along with his personal assertion on Twitter,  saying, “I’ve been the goal of anti-Semitic assaults from each the far proper and the far left.”

“This tweet from an extremist, nameless account selectively singles out two Jewish politicians and is disgusting. It’s a basic show of antisemitism and needs to be condemned,” hewrote.

Throughout an interview Sunday evening, Dinowitz added: “Anti-Semitism lately appears is turning into acceptable. Other than being anti-Semitic, making enjoyable of individuals’s names is juvenile.”

A marketing campaign spokesman for Goldman, the Home Democrats’ lawyer throughout the first impeachment continuing of former President Donald Trump — who narrowly received the Democratic major for tenth Congressional District seat final week — declined remark. Goldman is an inheritor to the Levi Strauss & Co. denims fortune.

No IDC NY took down the offending tweet following complaints and apologized on Sunday.

“The steering committee of No IDC NY has suspended the social media account supervisor who despatched this tweet,” a member of the group wrote on Twitter, in response to Torres’ publish.

“We’re sorry — no anti-Semitism was supposed and we took this down when people expressed issues it could possibly be taken the improper manner,” a rep from No IDC NY added.

“It was a joke in regards to the names that actually would have been higher not made, e.g. DINO stands for Dem in title solely, and was not imagined to be riffing off their Jewishness, we don't tolerate anti-Semitism.”
