Man dies after being electrocuted by LIRR third rail at Penn Station

A homeless man died Sunday morning when he got here into contact with the electrified third rail at one of many Lengthy Island Railroad platforms at Penn Station, authorities stated.

The incident occurred at 4:52 a.m. on LIRR Monitor 21, an MTA Police Division rep stated.

“It was a 40-year-old one that is a recognized homeless particular person, recognized to the businesses that present homeless companies at each Penn and Grand Central,” an MTA police supply stated. “He was found in his underwear with no different clothes.

“It's unclear whether or not he had been making an attempt to sleep in that space or whether or not he had inadvertently ended up on the tracks.”

Practice service was not impacted, and an investigation is ongoing, officers stated.
