US Navy foils Iranian attempt to capture sea-based drone

Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard was caught making an attempt to steal an American sea drone, the US Navy mentioned Tuesday.

A Revolutionary Guard assist ship, the Shahid Baziar, was found Tuesday towing a US Navy Saildrone within the Persian Gulf, in accordance with Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a spokesperson for the Navy’s fifth Fleet.

A Navy coastal patrol boat, the USS Thunderbolt, in addition to an MH-60 Seahawk Helicopter responded, transferring to intercept the high-sea theft and attain the Shahid Baziar on the radio.

Hawkins mentioned the incident resolved peacefully after 4 hours, with the Iranians unhooking the Saildrone and leaving the world.

The Saildrone Explorer, an uncrewed, wind-powered vessel, carries cameras, radars and sensors for remotely monitoring the ocean, the commander mentioned.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim information company reported with out offering proof that the drone had been a hazard to business delivery within the gulf.
