Fighter jets scramble after plane passenger makes bomb threat, attacks crew

Two fighter jets had been scrambled to intercept and escort a Singapore Airways flight from San Francisco to Singapore’s Changi Airport after a passenger made a bomb risk and attacked a crew member, officers mentioned.

The “unruly passenger” made the risk aboard Flight SQ33, which took off from San Francisco Worldwide Airport at about 10 p.m. native time Monday, Enterprise Insider reported.

“Earlier immediately, two of our F16C/Ds had been activated to escort a Singapore Airways flight that departed San Francisco for Singapore. This was due to a suspected bomb risk on board the plane,” the Singapore air drive advised CNN in a press release Wednesday.

“Our fighters escorted the airliner ’til it landed safely at Changi Airport,” it added.

Singapore’s Protection Ministry mentioned the “37-year-old male passenger had allegedly claimed that there was a bomb in a hand-carry bag, and had assaulted the crew.”

It added that “groups from (the military’s) Chemical, Organic, Radiological and Explosives Defence Group and Airport Police Division had been on website to confirm the claims.”

No bomb was discovered on board, officers mentioned.

The airline mentioned the passenger was “restrained on board.”

“The protection of our prospects and workers is all the time our high precedence,” the corporate mentioned, in line with CNN. “All passengers and crew have disembarked usually at 9:20 a.m. (Singapore Time).”

“We're helping the authorities with their investigations and remorse that we're unable to supply additional particulars,” it added.

The incident stays underneath investigation.
