Francisco Alvarez hitting seventh in Mets debut

The Mets aren’t losing any time unveiling Francisco Alvarez.

The slugging catching prospect was formally known as as much as the Mets on Friday afternoon and can bat seventh and DH in Friday’s collection opener towards the Braves. The Publish’s Joel Sherman first reported on Thursday evening the Mets have been planning the transfer.

Alvarez, 20, will primarily play towards lefty pitchers and can face one on Friday evening with the Braves beginning Max Fried (13-7, 2,50 ERA).

Alvarez hit .260 with 27 house runs and 78 RBIs this season, splitting his time between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse.

In a corresponding transfer, the Mets positioned outfielder Darin Ruf on the 10-day DL with a neck problem. Additionally they designated lefty pitcher Alex Claudio for project.
