Jaw-dropping moment pod of killer whales brawls with humpbacks

A pod of killer whales and two humpbacks have been captured on video final week in an “astonishing” brawl off the coast of Washington state, whale-watching captains mentioned.

A part of the confrontation was caught on video by Mollie Naccarato, a captain and naturalist with Sooke Coastal Explorations.

“I’ve liked whales my entire life, so I cried 3 times yesterday on the boat,” she instructed KING the day after the incident.

“Even doing this on daily basis, issues like that simply actually take your breath away.”

The PWWA recognized the humpbacks as Hydra, a feminine from Hawaii, and Reaper, from Mexico. Researchers imagine they could have began harassing the orcas whereas the latter have been searching.

“There have been a couple of events lately that our naturalists have seen humpback whales come to the rescue of different animals, like sea lions, that have been being chased by orcas,” Erin Johns Gless, govt director of the PWWA, instructed KING.

With each the orca and humpback whale populations rising as a result of extra stringent protections for marine animals, Gless predicted that comparable clashes might turn into extra frequent.

“We’re seeing extra orcas and we’re seeing extra humpbacks, so I wouldn’t be stunned if we see extra of those encounters of these two species collectively,” she defined.
