A pod of killer whales and two humpbacks have been captured on video final week in an “astonishing” brawl off the coast of Washington state, whale-watching captains mentioned.
The jaw-dropping encounter occurred final Thursday morning within the Strait of Juan de Fuca, close to the US-Canada border, the Pacific Whale Watch Affiliation mentioned.
Crew members with Eagle Wing excursions have been roughly 25 miles west of Victoria, British Columbia after they observed about 15 Bigg’s transient orcas being suspiciously lively on the floor. They ultimately noticed two humpback whales of their midst.
“The encounter included an astonishing three hours of breaching, tail-slapping, and loud vocalizations,” the PWWA assertion learn.

The PWWA recognized the humpbacks as Hydra, a feminine from Hawaii, and Reaper, from Mexico. Researchers imagine they could have began harassing the orcas whereas the latter have been searching.
“There have been a couple of events lately that our naturalists have seen humpback whales come to the rescue of different animals, like sea lions, that have been being chased by orcas,” Erin Johns Gless, govt director of the PWWA, instructed KING.
