QatarEnergy in talks for 30% in Lebanon offshore gas project

State-owned QatarEnergy is in talks with the Lebanese authorities to take a 30 % stake in an offshore exploration block and can be negotiating with TotalEnergies and Eni on this matter, CEO Saad al-Kaabi confirmed on Sunday.

Two sources mentioned final week that TotalEnergies and the Lebanese authorities reached a deal handing the French oil main momentary majority management of the block and paving the best way for negotiations with Qatar over a stake within the gasoline undertaking.

“We're within the strategy of discussing that with the federal government of Lebanon and the companions, Complete and Eni for a participation of round 30 % possession of that exploration block,” al-Kaabi mentioned.

“In the end once we get that mainly finalised as an settlement and we signal that settlement, we'll announce it.”

The preliminary exploration licence was held by a three-part consortium of TotalEnergies, Italy’s Eni, and Russia’s Novatek. Beirut introduced in September that Novatek, which held a 20 % stake, would exit.
