UN calls for Russia to pay reparations. How did countries vote?

The United Nations Common Meeting has adopted a decision calling for Russia to be held accountable for breaching worldwide regulation by invading Ukraine.

Handed on Monday, the decision requires Russia to pay reparations for the injury and lack of life in the course of the battle.

In his nightly video deal with, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned: “The reparations that Russia should pay … at the moment are a part of the worldwide authorized actuality.”

However Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday mentioned Russia stands “categorically towards” the proposal, including that Moscow would do “all the pieces doable” to cease the West from seizing its frozen worldwide reserves or “plundering” them to pay for reparations to Ukraine.

In complete, 94 of the meeting’s 193 members voted in favour of the decision on Monday.

Fourteen voted towards and 73 nations abstained.

The decision acknowledged that Russia “should bear the authorized penalties of all its internationally wrongful acts, together with making reparation for damage, together with any injury, brought on by such acts”.
