Former Afghan lawmaker Mursal Nabizada shot dead in Kabul

A former Afghan feminine legislator and one in every of her bodyguards have been killed at her dwelling in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, police have mentioned.

Mursal Nabizada had been a member of parliament within the United States-backed authorities that was deposed by the Taliban in August 2021. She was among the many few feminine parliamentarians who stayed in Kabul after the Taliban takeover.

“Nabizada, together with one in every of her bodyguards, was shot lifeless at her home,” Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran mentioned on Sunday.

Nabizada was elected in 2019 to signify Kabul. She was a member of the parliamentary defence fee and labored at a non-public nongovernmental group, the Institute for Human Sources Growth and Analysis.

Former lawmaker Mariam Solaimankhil mentioned on Twitter that Nabizada was a “fearless champion for Afghanistan”.

Member of the European Parliament Hannah Neumann tweeted: “I'm unhappy and indignant and wish the world to know!”
