Rikers Island inmates plot hunger strike over poor conditions ahead of Biden’s NYC visit

Fed up inmates at Rikers Island are planning one other starvation strike over the deplorable situations on the lockup — in hopes of elevating sufficient consideration that “a few of us can go house, ’trigger dwelling right here ain’t it!” The Submit has realized.

A handwritten notice was secretly circulated amongst inmates urging them to go on starvation strike forward of President Biden’s deliberate journey to the Massive Apple later this week.

“All gangsters, gents and arise people, the courts and DOC are violating us each day, and our households are struggling for it as properly,” reads the letter, which sources stated was distributed in meals carts to inmates at Rikers’ Robert N. Davoren Advanced.

“Courts are violating due course of rights, giving us ransoms insted of bails [sic]!” the letter obtained by The Submit reads. “What occur [sic] to bail reform?”

The screed, whose writer isn't identified, accuses officers with the town Division of Correction of “messing with our mail, visits, recreation, medical, legislation library, commissary, dwelling situations” and in addition complains of mildew within the lockup.

Final week, a gaggle of public defenders pleaded with Biden to go to Rikers when he involves the Massive Apple on Thursday, calling on him to “witness firsthand” the “unmitigated humanitarian disaster” there.
