Horse racing-Olympic equestrian champion Todd free to resume training after ban for striking horse

Double Olympic equestrian champion Mark Todd is free to renew coaching racehorses after receiving a four-month suspension with two months deferred over a video which confirmed him placing a horse with a department.

The 66-year-old New Zealander was seen placing a horse a number of instances whereas trying to coax it in direction of a water leap in a cross-country education session.

Todd, who received particular person gold medals on the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympics, has apologised for the incident.

He was handed an interim suspension by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) in February and since his penalty was back-dated to that time, his licence has now been restored.

The BHA stated Todd had accepted that his behaviour fell wanting the usual anticipated and “ran opposite to the values of care and respect for the horse that underpin British racing”.

Todd grew to become a racehorse coach in 2019 after retiring from three-day eventing.
