Forgotten bomb kills 13 scrap scavengers in northeast Nigeria

13 scrap-metal collectors in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state have died after a bomb they excavated blew up, safety sources advised AFP.

Sixteen steel scavengers from a displaced individuals’ camp in Bama discovered the bomb whereas digging for scrap on Monday within the bush on the outskirts of city.

“The bomb exploded as they had been pushing it in a cart towards the city, killing 13 and critically injuring three,” Babakura Kolo, a pacesetter in a neighborhood militia, stated on Tuesday.
