A police officer in Windfall, Rhode Island pleaded not responsible Friday to assaulting a lady at a pro-choice rally in June whereas off-duty.
Jennifer Rourke, who's operating for the Democratic nomination for a state senate seat stated that Windfall Police Division patrolman Jeann Lugo, 35, punched her within the face no less than twice on June 24. Lugo was operating for the Republican nomination for a similar senate seat that Rourke is competing for.
Lugo was off obligation on the day of the alleged assault and was charged with easy assault and disorderly conduct.
After the alleged assault, Lugo stated in a Twitter announcement that he was ending his marketing campaign and deactivated his account.
The protest was being held on the Rhode Island Statehouse in Windfall following the U.S. Supreme Courtroom’s determination to overturn Roe v. Wade. An inner investigation by the Windfall Police Division states that Lugo struck Rourke twice, violating division guidelines.
The Windfall Police Division Chief Hugh Clements Jr. advisable that Lugo must be terminated. Lugo is on paid suspension.
Lugo’s lawyer, Daniel Griffin, stated in July that Lugo “stays assured that the details of this example shall be delivered to mild and present that he's harmless of any wrongdoing.”
On the time of the incident on June 24, the Windfall Police Division stated it was “criminally investigating” Lugo’s habits.
“The PPD is criminally investigating the habits of an off obligation officer final night throughout a protest the place a feminine was assaulted,” the police division tweeted. “The officer has served for 3 yrs and positioned on administrative go away w/pay this morning, pending a legal investigation and administrative evaluate.”
