Letters to the Editor — Sept. 16, 2022

The Concern: New pointers requiring stronger oversight of curriculum in spiritual and personal faculties.

I wish to specific my nice dissatisfaction and disappointment on the picture connected to the article concerning yeshiva training (“Yeshivas should now make the grade,” Sept. 14).

Yeshiva Darchei Torah gives a full Regents program for our college students. We've got 9 superior placement programs, and 80% of our college students graduate faculty.

Amongst our graduates are legal professionals, docs, accountants and profitable enterprise professionals. How do I do know? As a result of my kids, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren have benefited and are benefiting from this training.

Yeshiva Darchei Torah went to nice lengths to offer my autistic son with a high-school training when others turned us away. I'm the proud president of this famend instructional establishment.

I invite you to return and see for your self what has already been lauded by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gov. Hochul, Betsy DeVos and others.

It’s about time that the Hasidic group be required to offer its kids a secular training.

Hasidic households take pleasure in having many kids, however they don't put together them for the world exterior.

I'm an alumnus of Darchei Torah Boys Faculty. I took two AP courses and went on to get a bachelor’s diploma in laptop science. My pals from Darchei Torah have gone to Harvard, Columbia, Baruch and lots of different undergraduate and graduate-level schools.

I imagine alumni from Darchei Torah are in a position to attain such excessive educational success due to their yeshiva training, not regardless of it.

Our college students have a rigorous schedule with a curriculum that focuses on analytical and summary pondering. Hours are spent on studying comprehension of texts in a number of languages.

It’s no marvel that so many yeshiva college students go on to turn out to be profitable legal professionals, construct companies, discovered tech firms and, most significantly, turn out to be leaders of their communities.

Maybe New York Metropolis’s training system may be taught one thing from our yeshivas.

I predict weak or non-existent enforcement of those new secular-education pointers.

The ultra-Orthodox yeshivas can be given a number of years (wink, wink!) to adjust to the revised pointers, simply as Mayor de Blasio gave them two years to adjust to the previous secular pointers a number of years in the past, understanding he can be out of workplace by the point the allotted compliance interval was up.

The Hasidim didn't comply then, and for certain they won't comply now. The Hasidim have lengthy been above the legal guidelines in New York, and little question will stay so, due to their bloc voting and monetary power.

Let me begin by stating unequivocally that every one college students ought to discover ways to learn, write and communicate English, carry out fundamental life-skill math and perceive historical past.

That being mentioned, there isn't any purpose they should perceive sciences which can be thought-about heresy and violate spiritual tenets and requirements. They don't want or need the woke adaptation of sexuality or gender identification.

There are millions of outstanding individuals who graduated from yeshiva and are docs, legal professionals, accountants, bodily and occupational therapists, lecturers, and so forth. — all functioning, tax-paying, contributing members of society.

The information regarding secular training in Hasidic faculties requires deeper examination.

The state Regents, in addition to The New York Occasions and others, ignore the truth that standardized exams are usually not at all times culturally delicate.

Allow us to not fail to acknowledge that Hasidic faculties educate difficult measurements and formulae impacting spiritual legislation throughout in depth Talmud courses.

And you will need to be aware that public faculties are usually not bastions of high quality training, regardless of standardized testing. But once more, authorities meddling is misguided and ill-timed.
